Spawn - Comic Books

Todd McFarlane created the fictional comic book character Spawn. Spawn first appeared in the comic of the same name in 1992 from Image Comics. Spawn later appeared in an animated television series, film, video games, toys, and other media.

Spawn is former CIA agent Al Simmons. Simmons is killed by his boss for witnessing his corruption. Simmons is sent to hell but makes a deal with the devil so he can see his wife one more time. Simmons returns to earth in the form of Spawn to right forces both criminal and supernatural. The film adaptation of Spawn was released in 1997 and drew moderate success at the box office. Actor Michael Jai White portrayed Al Simmons/Spawn on-screen. The film also featured John Leguizamo and Martin Sheen. A sequel was planned but has been in development hell since 1998.
