Stan Lee and Steve Ditko created the cultural icon Spider-Man in 1962. Spider-Man first appeared in Marvel Comics’ Amazing Fantasy 15. Spider-Man broke new ground because prior to his appearance, teenagers were relegated to the role of sidekick. Teenagers never carried a comic book series as the lead character. Soon after his introduction Spider-Man got his own comic book series titled The Amazing Spider-Man.
Spider-Man has been adapted to animated television series, live action television series, novels, films, and video games. Spider-Man is the flagship character of Marvel Comics and is as popular as
Batman and
Superman. Spider-Man's true identity is Peter Benjamin Parker. Parker's first appearance in comic books is as a high school student. One day Parker is bitten by a radioactive spider. He develops spider-like powers like super-strength, the ability to climb walls, and jumping ability. After his uncle is murdered he gets a job as a photographer for the Daily Bugle selling photos to J. Jonah Jameson.
