The same year Strangers with Candy was picked up by Comedy Central, Colbert also began working on

The Daily Show had achieved during the 2000 and 2004 elections.
In 2006, Colbert was at the height of his popularity, being named to many ‘most influential’ lists as well as a few ‘sexiest man’ lists. In 2008, he made a short-lived, mostly satirical presidential run in his home state of North Carolina.
Colbert is also a published author, writing the book I Am America (And So Can You) and co-writing the book Wigfield: The Can Do Town That Just May Not with Strangers with Candy co-stars Sedaris and Dinello.
