Stuart Weitzman incorporated unique materials into the design of his shoe collection. Examples of some of the more unusual materials he used in his design include wallpaper, cork, vinyl, and lucite. Stuart Weitzman started his designing career in his father's shoe company in Massachusetts, which was started in the late 1950's. At that time, the shoes his father manufactured were labeled Seymour Shoes and Mr. Seymour shoes. In the early 1960s, Stuart Weitzman started to design his own line of shoes for his father. The company was eventually sold to a Spanish company in 1971, but Weitzman continue to design for the company.
