Richard Lester directed the 1981 superhero film
Superman II. The movie is a sequel to the 1978 film
Superman. The film stars Christopher Reeve, Terence Stamp, Gene Hackman, Ned Beatty, Jackie Cooper, Sara Douglas, Margot Kidder, Valerie Perrine, and Susannah York.
The movie is controversial due to production problems.
Superman and
Superman II were filmed at the same time. Salkind productions used the same technique to film The Three Musketeers in 1973 and The Four Musketeers in 1974. The original director, Richard Donner, was removed by Salkind productions because he felt the movie was too “campy.” Before Donner was removed he had shot 75 percent of the movie. Alexander Salkind’s production company recruited Richard Lester to finish filming the movie. Consequently,

Superman film to be filmed by two directors. In November 2006,
Superman II: The Richard Donner Cut was released on DVD for the first time.
