The Bachelor in a competitive reality show that premiered on ABC in 2002. The show revolved around a bachelor who is looking to find a woman to marry. 25 women are brought in to compete for the Bachelor's affection.
The format is simple: The Bachelor goes on a series of dates (group or individual) with the women throughout the show. He eliminates a women each week until he is left with the one who he will ask to be his wife or continue a relationship.
During the elimination process, the Bachelor stands in front of the women with a number of red roses. Those women he wishes to continue seeing are given a rose, those he feels he has no connection with are not given a rose and sent home.
The Bachelor is a ratings winner for the network.
