The Big Lebowski - Movie Comedies

The movie’s structure has been compared to Raymond Chandler’s novel The Big Sleep. Jeff Bridges headlines the cast as Jeffrey Lebowski. Lebowski is an out of work Los Angeles slacker and avid bowler. Lebowski refers to himself as “the Dude.”

The other actors in the film include, John Goodman, Steve Buscemi, David Huddleston, Julianne Moore, Tara Reid, Philip Seymour Hoffman, Sam Elliott, Ben Gazzara, Peter Stormare, John Turturro, and Jon Polito. The movie was released by Gramercy Pictures on March 8, 1998 to positive reviews, but it was not a commercial hit. The film’s budget was $15 million; it grossed just over $17 million at the box office. The film has become a cult favorite, and has spawned the Lebowski Fest.
