Joel and Ethan Coen directed, produced, and wrote the 1998 American comedy film The Big Lebowski. The movie’s structure has been compared to Raymond Chandler’s novel The Big Sleep. Jeff Bridges headlines the cast as Jeffrey Lebowski. Lebowski is an out of work Los Angeles slacker and avid bowler. Lebowski refers to himself as “the Dude.”

The film’s budget was $15 million; it grossed just over $17 million at the box office. The film has become a cult favorite, and has spawned the Lebowski Fest.
