The Biggest Loser debuted on NBC in 2004 and has been helping overweight contestants get in shape and lose weight. Each season, a group of overweight contestants are sent to the Biggest Loser Campus where they are paired up with a personal trainer. The contestants must train and eat healthy and the person who loses the most percentage of body wins $250,000.
During each episode the contestants are show being trained by trainers who have demonstrated to be both tough and compassionate. At the end of an episode, the two persons who lost the least amount of percentage body weight are placed up for elimination. The remaining contestants must chose the person to go home. As a way to motivate the eliminated contestants, the show offers the person who has lost the most weight "at home" a prize of $100,000. So, although they are out of the running for the big prize, they can have chance to win the smaller prize and lose weight.
The Biggest Loser is also produced in various other countries. For the first three season, the show was hosted by comedian Caroline Rhea, but since then has been hosted by soap opera actress Alison Sweeney.
