The Departed - Movie Dramas

Martin Scorsese directed the 2006 crime thriller movie The Departed. The screenplay was written by William Monahan. The movie is a remake of 2002 Hong Kong crime thriller Infernal Affairs. Leonardo DiCaprio, Matt Damon, Jack Nicholson and Mark Wahlberg are the leading stars in the movie. The producers of 'The Departed' are Brad Grey,Graham King,Roy Lee and Brad Pitt. The movie was released by Warner Brothers on October 6,2006 to mostly positive reviews.

The movie's story takes place in Boston, Massachusetts, where a notorious boss of Irish mob Francis "Frank" Costello (Jack Nicholson) puts up Colin Sullivan (Matt Damon) as an informer within the Massachusetts State Police.At the same time, the police assign undercover cop Billy Costigan, Jr. (Leonardo DiCaprio) to infiltrate Costello's crew. After both these sides realize the situation,both of them attempt to find out the real identity of the other person. The movie won four Oscars at the 79th Academy Awards including the award for Best Movie and the long awaited Best Director award for Martin Scorsese.

The movie was made with a budget of $90million and it grossed over $289 million at the box office. In 2007, Mark Wahlberg in an interview had stated a potential sequel focusing his character and bringing in Robert De Niro.
