The Shield is a police drama that aired on FX Networds from 2002 - 2008 that focused on a corrupt police officers. The series was originally titled 'Rampart' in reference to the Los Angeles Police Department's Rampart Division which was embroiled in a police scandal at the time.
The series was about an experimental division of the LAPD (The Strike Team) set up in a fictional district of LA. The team used a wide range of illegal tactics to maintain the peace and profited from their actions. The Strike Team would often plant drugs, beat up suspects, lie and framing suspects.
The show was a critical success and was the first show to gain the most Emmy nominations for a basic cable show.
