
The X-Files was a science fiction dram that aired of FOX from 1993 to 2002 (nine seasons). The show focused on FBI agents Fox Mulder (David Duchovny) and Dana Scully (Gillian Anderson) and their investigations into the paranormal and extraterrestrial encounters.
The show proved to be a huge hit for the then young FOX network and also managed to win the loyalty of fans and is often viewed at the defining series of its time. The show became part of pop culture almost immediately and continues to be referenced long after its been off the air.
The series started off with Fox Mulder looking for his sister whom he believed had been abducted by aliens when they were children. Thought of as a risk, he was paired with skeptic Dr. Dana Scully who was supposed to keep him in check. Over the years and after many cases the two began to form a close relationship. Many fans of the show were very vocal about their desire to see a romantic relationship between the agents, but that was never shown. At least not in the first few years of the show.
The X-Files also spawned two movies, The X-Files: Fight the Future (1998) and The X-Files: I Want to Believe (2008), and a TV spin-off, The Lone Gunmen. The show's portrayal of a corrupt government in regards to hiding extraterrestrial life, and ongoing conspiracy made the show a hot topic of discussion among fans and even created some of the most memorable characters in TV history.
The show also starred Mitch Pileggi as ADA Walter Skinner, Robert Patrick as Agent ohn Doggett and Annabeth Gish as Agent Monica Reyes.
