True Blood, a vampire drama based on the Sookie Stackhouse book series, debuted on HBO in 2008. The show was created by Six Feet Under creator Alan Ball and stars Ana Paquin as Sookie Stackhouse.
In the world of True Blood, vampires have "come out" of hiding and co-exist with humans. Vampires no longer need to feed on human blood as technological advancements have allowed for the production of a synthetic blood called True Blood. Humans are still wary about living among vampires and intolerance among the undead is ever present.
The show is set in the small town of Bon Temps, Louisiana where Sookie is a waiters at a bar and she also happens to have telepathic abilities. She falls in love with Bill Compton (Stephen Moyer) a vampire which makes things a complicated mess. A series of murders occurs in the first season but the mystery is resolved at the end of the 12th episode.
