Victoria's Secret has launched the careers of may super models since it was founded in 1977. The most famous models to emerge from the Victoria's Secret runway are
Heidi Klum (who know has her own show, "
Project Runway" and
Tyra Banks who also has her own talk show) and has made their catalog a must have for women (and some men).
The lingerie empire has evolved from operating stores to becoming part of popular culture. The first Victoria's Secret was opened, not by someone named Victoria, but by a man named Roy Raymond who was embarrassed to buy lingerie for his wife at a department store. The store soon included a mail order catalog. The design and decoration of the stores were meant to help men fell more comfortable when shopping for their wives. After five years Raymond sold the company to The Limited.
Throughout the years, Victoria's Secret has managed to maintain a high class, clean reputation and has worked hard to keep away any sleazy connotations selling lingerie and underwear might carry. Today the annual Victoria's Secret fashion show is televised, their annual sale is anticipated by millions and becoming a Victoria's Secret model is an honor. Not bad for a guy who was too embarrassed by buy some lingerie for his wife, huh?
