the huffington post aren't the ones announcing the end of the recession. the National Bureau of Economic Research are, and they aren't 'government economic figures'. they are an independent, private, non-government, nonprofit research organization.

TECHNICALLY, the recession is over and has been for over a year. when businesses want to start hiring again, they will.

that's catchy, paul, and you can call environmentalism a religion if you want. it makes as much and as little sense as any other religion, but to suggest that there is no common sense to taking care of the environment is just ludicrous.

that's one reading of it. another is that with the government's assistance, GM was able to turn it's ship around and now has a chance to make it out in there in the market. people are under the ridiculous belief that the government is a negative force in their lives or that the government WANTS to run GM. the government works for the american people, and recognizing that GM was a substantial element in the American economy, they rushed to GM's rescue. now GM can continue to grow and employ american workers. the government isn't some crazy, power-hungry entity, it's american's doing the best they can for the american people
