As long as they actually get the right info, it is always helpful to have big names like Oprah bring this into the limelight.

Early screening and education is a definite must, although in our case, my wife had PPD pretty badly and still "passed" a couple of screens.

Sadly, our doctor really did not know much about it. He basically just said "here's some Prozac. How much do you want?"

Some form of prediction would certainly help a lot. We didn't get help for a while because my wife didn't realize what was happening until she was to sick to want help...

One of the toughest things that we found when we lost our son was that no one (including us) understood what we were going through because no one talks about it. Talking about it helps.

Good luck! It does eventually get easier... Slowly, but eventually. As I type this, I can hear my wife laughing in the next room. A year ago, I would have given anything to hear that.

All to often, the system focuses on "the squeeky wheel" and dumps a lot of the pressure onto other family members with little concern about the cosequences to the rest of the family.

Going to a group really helpped us through a horrible time. Just to know that you are not alone and be able to talk to people that know what you are going throught because they are going through it too helps you out so much.
