Hi! I’m back. Sorry for the extended hiatus, these have been difficult times as we lost our dear Mamacita (Oma) a couple of weeks ago.
In the meantime some sewing has been going on, the biggest project was a dress for my daughter who attended a fancy fund raiser last September.

I made this top to wear to a piano concert at an outdoor pavilion. I wanted to look nice, but not over the top because it was outside. I wore this top with very dark wash jeans, high heeled sandals and what else? my DKNY cozy!

I love this outfit I put together for What to Wear Over 40…
…I have the cardigan and suede flats, I can buy the striped tank and I have lots of gray corduroy to make the pants. I’ll use the Burda pattern I used for Project MyWay #17–Black Velvet Jeans, I’ll have to taper the legs.

I made this dress to go with my DKNY cozy–that’s what I love about sewing, you can make a garment to wear with anything in your wardrobe. I love my cozy, it’s the perfect color and weight for late summer when the evenings are chilly and I was happy to find fabric to create a dress

At this time of the year number one on my fall wardrobe list is a great suit; it becomes the backbone of my wardrobe. Luckily, nice looking suits can be had at any price point, but this is where it pays to be able to sew it yourself and have the out of reach designer

I’d love to share my thoughts on the first episode of the new Project Runway season, but I fell asleep within the first half hour. That may be because it was a bit of a yawn because it was just like previous seasons, except that it took place in LA instead of New York. Or,

This is a great time of the year to purchase fall clothes, shoes and boots that are on sale from last year. I’m looking for great deals on not-too-trendy pieces that will jump start my fall wardrobe. I don’t want to spend too much though, because I want to save the bulk of my fall

My after July 4th shopping philosophy:
buy staples like T-shirts and jeans while they’re on sale
buy warm weather clothes in classic silhouettes that will still look great next year (see my last post, Shopping the Summer Sales I)
