Prudes Won't Think This Book Is Funny!

Salma Gundi posted an article on - Jun 22, 2010, 11:23 pm
This book really jumped out at me because the spine was multicolored and looked old. So I pulled it out of the shelf and read the cover: Over Sexteen: Prudes Won't Think It Funny! That's just not a book you can put back and the illustrations show why. Love the cover and some of the cartoons inside a...

Alice In Wonderland and Film Cartoons Saturday

Salma Gundi posted an article on - Feb 20, 2010, 10:06 pm
Late this Saturday afternoon I took a quick peep at a local thrift store to check out their book section. I found one book that I could probably swap at Paperback Swap. I walked over to the electronics section and forgot to go peek at the children's books. I ended up finding a couple of old ones - i...

The precious prize - or things found in old books

Salma Gundi posted an article on - Feb 15, 2010, 7:35 pm
On a short book hunting jaunt this afternoon, I came upon a red book with a very worn spine sitting on the shelf. The spine was so worn it was unreadable and little dried pieces of cloth chipped off its edge. The title, Johnson's Lives of the Poets Volume II ©1900 edited by Mrs. Alexander Napier wi...

Ephemera - Soneeta Nylon Hairnet Envelope

Salma Gundi posted an article on - Feb 8, 2010, 9:00 pm
Here's a nice piece of advertising ephemera I found today at an antique store for a mere pittance. There was just no matching the beauty of yesteryear's ladies. Glamourous, stylish and demure with sensibility - that's what I admire about those women. Just candidly beautiful. No photoshopping, no bot...

Straight out of Compton

Found these 2 nice yearbooks, The Compton Yearbook - An illustrated, factual record of outstanding events in 1963 complete with dust covers still intact. Although the insides of these two yearbooks aren't that spectacular, the dust covers are fantastically sci-fi. 1964 Edition Special Feature...

Paperback scores by accident

Salma Gundi posted an article on - Jan 10, 2010, 11:31 pm
There was a time when I did not know what I was doing when it came to book searching and buying. I still don't -- much. I find myself buying books just for the wonderful covers particularly if they had anything to do with astronomy or astronauts. These books just had to come home with me. About two ...

Good book finds Tuesday

Okay, so I didn't find any high priced books but I still had fun. I always have fun book hunting. It's a veritable treasure hunt full of surprises. I took a drive over to an area in another county where people are a bit more religious than in my town. Driving down the main highway you will often see...

Wigger - a taboo name and a rare Dell children's book from the 1970's

Salma Gundi posted an article on - Dec 19, 2009, 6:25 pm
Everyone knows that this word has become taboo 30 years after this book's release. However, due to the controversial title of this children's book and its somewhat rare status, I found only 7 copies on Amazon, the first starting at $40.00. I was skeptical so I checked on ABE Books and found similar ...

Wednesday book finds

Salma Gundi posted an article on - Dec 10, 2009, 7:49 pm
Book hunting is fun, even when you don't always find something and walk away with hands empty. One never knows what they might find or what might be hidden on the bottom of a dusty shelf in some dumpy little thrift store. The goods are there and sometimes you have to dig. When I had to run a couple...

This is common in Islamic belief systems - the superstitions reign supreme, more so than in Christianity. It is a large load of kerfuffle.
