Hello! I am an "Afro Nerd". My family is full of Black educators, scientists, mathematicians and artists.My grandfather and all his siblings graduated from college (during the bad old days of Jim Crow). My grandfather (and several of his brothers and sisters) had a Master's degree. Two of my great-uncles had Ph.Ds. My Uncle Wade was the eleventh "African-American" to earn a Ph.D. in mathematics,my Uncle Jim had a Ph.D. and was a computer scientist. My grandmother had a degree in Psychology. I have always been around relatives who value learning and achievement. They didn't believe the stereotype that Black people "couldn't learn",etc. "Afro Nerd" is like "home" for me. No one here will accuse me of "trying to be White"(because I am a math major)."Afro Nerd" is Great!!
