Needing to finish in the top 8, Australia found themselves in Heat #2 with Korea, Russia and Japan. Australia unfortunately finished last across the line a few laps behind 3rd placing Japan. The race splits seem to indicate a fall at lap 12.
This sees Australia finishing in second last place overall ahead of the Ukraine. The top 8 include:
USA
Canada
Italy
Korea
Germany

... short distance races. I admire elite athletes like Dathan Ritzenhein who is awesome at both ends of the spectrum (2:10 marathon and an American Record of 12:56.27 at 5000m). It more than just the star high school quarterback who also is the starting pitcher on the baseball team; the specificity of training for the marathon is much different than that of the short distance track races. Although ...

... became greener as we watched, we thought it was remote controlled or something...), red lake, hot springs, vicunas, flamingos etc. Amazing! Night one was spent trying to drink wine at altitudes of 4500-5000m and playing a very serious game of pass the pigs! So at around 9.30 (I know, we were hardcore) we went to bed. Sleep alluded most of us until around 4 am - bloody altitude and concrete beds. ...

... We did a good portion of the Double RoughWater course today- got to within about 1000M of the turn-around buoys (channel marker buoys that are always there) so I'm guessing it was in the neighborhood of 5000M today. And since none of it was what you could call pleasant, it felt like real training. You know, sometimes we go out there and the sky is all blue and the bright sun makes everything ...

... is “slowly, slowly” to not trigger altitude sickness.
The Three Pass route I’m planning is only moderately difficult, except for altitude. It’s high and high for a long time. I’ll be at least 6 times over 5000m maxing out at 5535m.
Trekking peaks, for which you need a permit, are 6000m+.
I might find internet one more time before Everest Base Camp.

... finished 3rd and 4th in the 3000m indoors, and was NCAA runner-up in the 3000 outdoors. At her indoor conference meet in 1986, she won both the mile (4:50.94) and two-mile (10:05.31). Her all-time bests include times of 4:15.68 for 1500 (still a Texas record), 9:01.34 for 3000, and 15:55.9 for 5000m. She also ran on the 4x800 relay team that ran 8:27.90, a record that still stands 23 years later.

"It remains unimaginable for me how I could get banned for one single indication that is also very contested scientifically."
Pechstein won her first Olympic gold medal in the 5000m at Lillehammer in 1994, and took the same distance in Nagano in 1998 and Salt Lake City in 2002.
She also won the 3000m in Salt Lake City, and was part of Germany's winning team ...
