... , and many of the punctuation characters can be described in a form that computers can work with. An ASCII character is stored in a single byte, which is eight bits. Traditionally the eighth bit of ... bits to work with. Binary is base two, so there are two to the power seven values that can be represented - this is why ASCII codes run from zero to 128. --- Excerpted from The Book of Codes, page 273. ...

Today I discovered an ASCII art generator. For those of you not light years ahead of me in computing knowledge, it converts a picture into text. I decided to post an ASCII pic of one my favorite cars, the Aston Martin DBS. If you want to convert something, the site is here. Enjoy in both black and white.
I haven’t used this product, other DotSoft stuff I’ve tried has been great, but it gets a mention due to the lovely ascii art diagram* that featured in the plain text email that announced it. Who needs Visio… DotSoft Excel2DWG 5.1 DotSoft has developed a revolutionary new way to solve the old problem of placing Excel spreadsheets into CAD applications.  The result is Excel2DWG.  We moved ...

... : If you put enough nerds in front of a set of lettered keys, one of them will produce awkward art, eventually. Strictly speaking, this should be called typewriter art, since the ASCII acronym didn't come into use until 1963, and this piece, but a young gentleman named Bob, apparently, wasn't created until the mid-thirties. And unlike the thousands of lovingly pecked-out Simpsons ...

I hacking together a report today and discovered the Unicode text I received was actually in Unicode not ASCII.  I remembered that ChrW(int) will convert character codes to their associated character.  I really wasn’t in the mood to write parsing logic and test it, but luckily I came across a class which does this.  I ripped out the method I needed and it worked great in all it’s ...

I think sunslayer has those two aliases reversed, where the ascii one should be the char one, and vice versa. -Edited added a check.

ditaa looks handy(via this post). Why you would be wanting to convert diagrams to ascii art, I don't know... Okay, that's unfair... I would actually probably use this myself... because I tend to keep all my notes and stuff as raw text files rather than use a word processor(not even HTML... just raw test. SciTE launches so fast you barely notice it, and no fiddling with font or formatting ...

Las Vegas: The show we saw tonight I can’t actually type the name of, so I feel sort of bad for the people that had to do the marketing and promotional materials for it. The name is Le Reve (with the first ‘e’ in “Reve” having the carat-looking thing above it — in math, we’d just call it “e hat”), but fortunately my review of it is something ...

Topic: ASCII to binary Message: I made something that might help you get started...only cause I wanted to do something similar and I didn't know exisited! If you type in a word with spaces inbetween each letter, then the letters get sent one by one to a select that will send them to a number. That number is converted to a frequency( ) used for an osc~ and sent to dac~ It doesn't convert ...
I may be on a Taiga kick since I'm close to finishing Toradora, but there's no way you can deny the awesome and sexy nature of this Taiga garage kit. Spotted by our friends over at Tomopop, I haven't been able to control my raging lust towards Taiga all day. By the time you read this, I will already have purchased a Taiga body pillow. No, not really. I'm not Nii-san or anything. ...

via youtube.com How wasn't this one of the coolest things ever? I remember, over a decade ago, marveling at the time and effort taken to accomplish this. Even thought this only takes us from the intro to meeting Obi Wan, the effort is Herculean. I know that to some, you may look at this and think "WTF is he on about?" Trust me and watch. Even if you weren't raised on with ...
We were watching something on the telly, and an ad for a proprietary e-book reader for some bookstore chain came on. "That's not a book!" I declared in disgust. "That's my little Luddite!" said my wife fondly. I pointed out that I just had my Royal typewriter reconditioned (for the third time) -- I was not likely to buy a PADD. But, especially not now. As far as I ...
