While I liked him as a man, and while it was tough, I knew this summer that it was time to let Eric Wedge go. I bear him no ill will, and really hope he ends up somewhere else pretty quickly. Still, whether you loved or hated the man, I'll say this in his defense:
Any ball coach who listens to Merle Haggard is alright by me.

Wedge was ... loved playing for him. Melvin was canned very early in the year with the D backs. I think its between Wedge and Melvin unless someone else comes up at the last minute.

Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports says that former Indians manager Eric Wedge is a candidate for the Mets bench coach job.
In addition to Wedge, former Diamondbacks manager Bob Melvin and former Orioles bench coach Dave Jauss are also candidates, but Rosenthal says that the Mets are not close to a decision.
