So today's interesting find is Macionism, an early sect of Christianity. They believed the old Testament god (the jealous, wrathful one one who racked up an impressive body count) was, while the creator of the earth, some kind of lesser deity. Basically a malicious demiurge, who created a flawed world for us to suffer in. Jesus was then sent by the true god to show us a way out of the trap.
