... real size of government — which explains why the number of federal employees has reached 2.15 million, the most ever.
If spending isn't brought under control soon, the U.S. will suffer the fate of all fiscally irresponsible nations — slower economic growth, lower standards of living, shorter lives.Read the full editorial at the link below:

A blog called Elder of Ziyon reports:
The US envoy to the Middle East just doomed any remote chance there might have ever been for a peaceful two-state solution.
Palestine Press Agency quotes Mitchell as having told his Lebanese hosts that the US “does not support the resettlement of the Palestinians” in Lebanon. The US Embassy website in Lebanon said “As the Special Envoy, ...

As you may or may not know, I’ve been house/dog sitting the past five days and that means I’ve had free access to a car for that same amount of time. That means I’ve been listening to a lot of Chicago radio. One song that has invariably been played probably more than any other

There is something magical about authoring picture books for children.
Your primary audience has not learned critical thinking skills.
There are little or no expectations of comprehension.
Illustrations easily override the text as the primary storytelling mechanism.
Expectations from parents are minimal, and constitute virtually any volume capable of capturing a child's interest.
Any message ...

No single raindrop believes it is to blame for the flood.
From my new favorite, despair.com.
So we humans spend a great amount of time to complain about the system and obliviously forget that we are actually a part of that system.
So we claim we do not like what we see around us and how we feel hate or pity over the authority or the government that never satisfies the lot (the government gets ...

He was short, muscular, and on a mission. He had long since cleared his mind of the emotions of his situation and was now checking his facts before making a huge decision. It's a scenario I see over and over in my job, but with endless variations on just how clearly options are identified and weighed at an extremely stressful time. This man, however, had months to work through his ...

Apparently Indianapolis is starting school two hours later on Monday in anticipation of school related employees (everyone from bus drivers to super intendants) being hung over and needing time in the morning to recover. Furthermore there are whispers of moving the Super Bowl to Saturdays so that this will not be a problem in the future.
Wow.
It seems people everywhere are living up to the ...

Dear Dr. Jones:
I completely agree with you that individuals on the public dole ought not to be spending their limited resources (our tax dollars) on "luxuries and vices." If you can come up with humane, cost-effective measures to monitor and control each individual's spending habits, I feel certain that President Obama will seriously consider your suggestions. Your contention, ...

I am wondering if the day will come when one of the bond rating agencies announcies it is putting the sovereign debt of the United States government on its "watch" list for possible downgrading. The Bush Administration was irresponsible, but irresponsible within previously observed bounds of recklessness. The Obama Administration is proposing a budget with a deficit ...

Q: What do the US Army and the Hotel California have in common?
A: You can check out, but you can never leave.
This fact was brought to my attention by the story of Marc Hall – aka Marc Watercus – who is banged up in prison for writing a rap song protesting the Army’s stop-loss policy. Stop-loss is double-barrelled doublespeak describing this clause ...

... increases and tax cuts must be paid for; they're not free, and borrowing to finance them is not a sustainable long-term policy.
It is no coincidence that when we last had statutory PAYGO, during the 1990s, we turned deficits into surpluses. The passage of statutory PAYGO today will help usher out an era of irresponsibility and begin putting the country back on a fiscally sustainable path.
