The shipping forecast read out that night, warning of Force 11 winds, had been read out the night before and the Force 11 winds had come and gone.

On Thursday, 29 October the BBC Radio 4 programme “In our Time” was devoted to a 45-minute discussion of Schopenhauer’s philosophy. It can be listened to in its entirety on the BBC iPlayer (for a limited time, at least); the panel includes AC Grayling and Chris Janaway.

Radio 4 yesterday ran an interesting programme about High Flight a favourite poem of mine. The programme explores the history of the poet and pilot John Magee and of the poem itself.
The programme is available on iPlayer for another 6 days and is worth a listen; although I could have quite happily gone without ever hearing the King Singers sung version.
