I seem to remember this as being part of a series of books. This book involves several characters making a deal with someone and it turns badly when they get their wishes. The only plot I remember is a girl wishing her boyfriend would "keep rooted" in town and he literally turns into a tree. I'm pretty sure another plot involved a flood of some sort.
